German high-end vinyl brand Clearaudio has recently launched a new phono preamplifier, the Clearaudio Compact Phono, offering an ultra-compact design that provides MM/MC phono stage solutions with both performance and convenience for vinyl enthusiasts. [1]

Measuring just 80×115×26mm, roughly the size of a matchbox, it can be easily placed next to a turntable without taking up much space. As an established vinyl brand, Clearaudio already has several phono stages in its lineup; the Compact Phono clearly targets entry-level to mid-range users seeking a clean desktop layout. [1]

The front panel of the Clearaudio Compact Phono features a switch to toggle between MM (Moving Magnet) and MC (Moving Coil) cartridges, allowing users to quickly switch between different cartridge types without opening the chassis or using jumpers, greatly enhancing ease of use. However, the company has not yet disclosed detailed electrical specifications such as gain or impedance matching, nor whether it uses discrete components or an op-amp design. [1]

Pricing and release date have also not been announced, but given Clearaudio's product positioning and Compact Phono's compact design, its price is likely to fall within the brand's entry-level phono stage range. Based on other Clearaudio product lines, the product is expected to hit the market sometime in 2025. [1]

The biggest highlight of this phono stage is its size—80×115×26mm makes it one of the most compact standalone MM/MC phono stages currently available. The front-panel MM/MC switch eliminates the hassle of plugging and unplugging jumpers, making it especially friendly for users who frequently change cartridges. [1]

From an editor's perspective, the Clearaudio Compact Phono is better suited for vinyl beginners who value a tidy desktop and limited space, or for those who already have a turntable but want a simple phono stage upgrade. Compared to competitors at similar price points (such as the iFi Zen Phono or Cambridge Audio Alva Duo), it emphasizes extreme compactness but may lack advanced features like adjustable load impedance or fine gain adjustment. If you're a purist who trusts Clearaudio's sound foundation, this phono stage is worth a look; if you need more adjustable parameters, it's advisable to wait for detailed specs before deciding. [1]
